Biography/Timeline
Alec Secăreanu was born in Bucharest, Romania. He completed drama study at the Caragiale Academy of Theatrical Arts and Cinematography (Universitatea Națională de Artă Teatrală ṣi Cinematografică “I.L.Caragiale”, UNATC), which he completed in 2007.
After appearing in a number of Romanian films, 2017 brought Secăreanu his first English-language role in Director Francis Lee’s God's Own Country. In the award-winning drama, he was seen as a Romanian migrant farm worker Gheorghe, who begins relationship with a sheep farmer (played by Josh O'Connor) on a farm in Yorkshire. Director Lee had insisted on the cast of a Romanian actor in the role of Gheorghe. After winning the role, two weeks working on a farm followed before filming. "The two-week rehearsals helped me build the figure because I had to work in the yard, I learned to work with cows and sheep, watch the birth of lambs, cut sheep hooves, make cheese ...," said Secăreanu. His performance in God's Own Country earned him a London agent, membership in the British Actor's Union" and a nomination for British Independent Film Awards.
