Martino was born in January 1933 and passed away in January 2008. Martino was from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He co-founded the AAMCO transmission repair franchise with Robert Morgan in 1963. The name AAMCO was taken from Martino's three initials. He sold his interest in the company in 1967 and founded the MAACO auto body and paint service franchise in 1972. Martino was the CEO of MAACO until his passing in 2008.

He founded the Sparks Tune-Up shops which were bought out by Meineke Mufflers and Brakes in 1987. Martino also founded the Goddard Schools for Early Childhood Education in 1988 and sold the 130 franchise chain in 2002. He received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the International Franchise Association in 1990. Martino is a member of the Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame. Anthony A. Martino passed away on January 27, 2008.
