He graduated from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Technology College. In 2004, he began racing within the British national championships. Soon after in 2006, he chose to ride for Ireland. He first began racing in different amateur races in 2006. In 2008, he made his professional debut as part of the Slipstream-Chipotle team.
