Eventually, he forged a license, and secured a position at WLS-FM in Chicago. He rose through the radio ranks and eventually took over the evening show at WBBM-FM. He subsequently took over the morning show for the station. He went back to broadcasting on the East Coast in the mid-80s, and began broadcasting as one half of the "Don and Mike Show" with Mike O'Meara.
