Indian professional sprinter who's held the title of national champion in the women's 100 meters race. She made history by becoming the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal in the 100m race at a global competition. In 2019, she achieved another first for India as she became the initial sprinter from the country to secure a gold medal at the Universiade, completing the 100m race in just 11.32 seconds.
She attained the national championship title in the under-18 category in 2012, after completing the 100m event in 11.85 seconds.
Qualifying for the Women's 100m event at the 2016 summer Olympics, she became only the third Indian woman to achieve this feat. Her popular duteechand Instagram account has amassed 1 million followers.
She is from Chaka Gopalpur village, Jajpur district of Odisha. She has an older sister named Saraswati Chand, who is also a runner. In 2019, she became the first Indian athlete to publicly identify as a member of the LGBTQ+ community after she spoke about being in a same-sex relationship.
