An American citizen since 1994, he accumulated his billion-worth fortune in his native Russia during the privatization of the country's industry. At the time, he became close friend with fellow oligarch Roman Abramovich who gave Shvidler a 370-foot yacht, Le Grand Bleu, as a sign of respect to their firm friendship.
Shvidler's interests include a share in the Russian steelmaker Evraz and a spacious property in France. At his Chateau Thenac in France, he has a vineyard that produces nine grape varieties and wines that are receiving positive reviews from critics. There, Shvidler also grows plums in two orchards. Most recently, he got appointed on the board of AFC Energy, a company that develops alkaline fuel cell technology. Aside from making money, he also has actively played the role of a money provider, i.e., he was the primary funder for the rebuilding of a Jewish school in England that is now called Beit Shvidler Primary School. Even though he owns a house in Snowmass, Colorado, Evgeny currently lives in Belgravia, London.
