He is from Kathmandu, Nepal. He graduated from Tribhuvan University. He served as King from 1950-1951 when he was a young child since his grandfather took political exile in India.
He is the only person in the history of Nepal to have been king twice. He succeeded to the throne after his nephew Prince Dipendra passed away from self inflicted wounds.
