He started playing in bands in the early 1960s and was hired to play for Small Faces for 20-30 pounds a week in 1965. The band's manager Don Arden collected all of their proceeds and the band did not received any royalties in 1997. The band changed their name to Faces in 1969 after Rod Stewart joined. Small Faces had hits including "Lazy Sunday", "All of Nothing", "Tin Soldier", and "Itchycoo Park". They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 and received the Ivor Novello Outstanding Contribution to British Music "Lifetime Achievement" Award in 1996. The Faces split in 1975 and McLagan worked for The Rolling Stones as a sideman. He has worked as a session musician for Chuck Berry, Bob Dylan, Jackson Browne, Joe Cocker, Bonnie Raitt, Melissa Etheridge, Paul Westerberg, Frank Black, John Mayer, and Bruce Springsteen. He has also been a member of Billy Bragg's band since 1997. He has released 10 solo albums with his Bump Band. He published the autobiography "All the Rage: A Riotous Romp Through Rock & Roll History" in 2000. Ian was formerly married to Kim Kerrigan. Unfortunately, Ian McLagan died on December 3, 2014 at the age of 69.
