About
Former queen of Spain who ruled during the middle of the 19th century. Her reign sparked a national dispute of royal succession and led to the Carlist Wars. Under the temporary regency of her mother, Spain switched from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional monarchy.
She came to the throne shortly before turning three years old, mostly due to the lack of her father having a son.
In 1868, she was deposed in the Glorious Revolution and was succeeded by her son Alfonso XII. She later went to live in Paris after renounced all claims to the throne.
She was the eldest daughter of her father King Ferdinand VII and her mother Maria Christina.
She and Queen Isabella are both former queens of Spain.
