Welsh-born New Zealand actor who became famous playing Inspector "Sharky" Finn in the TVNZ police drama series, Shark in the Park. He also appeared in New Zealand soap operas Shortland Street and Mercy Peak. He played Jason in the series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. In the 2012 film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, he played the Dwarf King Thrór.

He trained as a quantity surveyor. He attended Liverpool University, completing a BA in English Literature and in Celtic Studies. He also studied at the University of Oxford, gaining a Master of Letters (M.Litt) degree.

He starred as Titus Lentulus Batiatus in the Starz series Spartacus: Gods of the Arena. He narrated Costa Botes's and Peter Jackson's 1995 mockumentary Forgotten Silver. He has appeared in plays like The Balcony by Jean Genet for Downstage Theatre, and Mauritius by Theresa Rebeck at Circa Theatre. Over the course of his career, he has acted in more than 40 titles, from film to television.

His grandmother's interest in drama inspired his interest in acting. He married a New Zealander and they moved to Wellington.

He was in the series Outrageous Fortune, starring Robyn Malcolm and Antony Starr.
