His first television appearance was on 24 Hour Restaurant Battle, where he presented his plans for a brunch cafe with his girlfriend JJ Pyle. Even though they won, they never opened the restaurant. Two years later, he appeared on and won Food Network Star. His show was going to be Rebel with a Culinary Cause. In January 2013, however, his Food Network mentor Alton Brown announced that he would not be producing the show.
