In 1990, Fitzgerald met actor Noah Emmerich, who acted in The Truman Show, Beautiful Girls, and Miracle. Fitzgerald appears as an extra in The Truman Show and can be seen in the dance scene. The two were married on November 28, 1998; they divorced in 2003.
Fitzgerald is the founder of Voices in Harmony, a non-profit community theater in Los Angeles. From 1999 to 2005, she played Carol Fitzpatrick, assistant to C. J. Cregg, on The West Wing.
