Before Fame
He contracted tuberculosis when he was four and was intermittently sick for much of his youth. He received his training at the Architectural Association from 1921 until 1926.
Trivia
He was part of the 1958 reconstruction of Downing Street; he was also elected a Royal Academician in 1959 and was a member of the Royal Fine Art Commission from 1960 until 1973.
