He is the son of Eileen (Maloof) and Raymond Romanos, and the brother of actor Richard Romanus. He originally came to Los Angeles to pursue a singing career, but ended up in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. He later formed a band called Papa's Kitchen with Steve Feldman. Romanus has starred in various films and television shows, including The Best of Times (1983), Bad Medicine (1985), Fame (1986-1987), Booker (1989), Maggie Winters (1998), Days of Our Lives (1983-1985), The Young and the Restless (2002), and American Pie Presents: The Book of Love (2008). He also directed the 2008 drama Grapefruit Moon and played the guitar teacher in The Runaways (2010). He currently owns a café in North Hollywood, Bob's Espresso Bar. Romanus has three children with his ex-wife, actress Kari Lizer.
