Before Fame
He was a nose gunner on bombing runs over Europe during World War II. For his bravery, he received an Air Medal. In 1949, he graduated from Harvard.
Trivia
His nonfiction book, The Devil to Pay, was based on the early years of Fidel Castro's Cuban presidency. A hotel employee in the Caribbean at the time, Moore witnessed Castro's rise to power firsthand.
Family Life
He grew up in Concord, Massachusetts. His father, Robert Lowell Moore, was the co-founder of the Sheraton hotel chain.
