Before Fame
He studied law at Charles University in Prague from which he graduated in 1935. He was an officer in the cavalry from 1936 until 1939.

Family Life
His family was Jewish, and he had to flee Czechoslovakia for the United Kingdom because of the rise of the Nazis. He married Edith Laner in 1944. His son was Mathematician Thomas Körner, and his daughter was Ann M. Körner, a biochemist, Writer, and translator.
