Before Fame
He and his early band, the Apaches, released their debut single, "Oh, Susie Be Mine," in 1964. Early in his career, he also collaborated with members of the popular 1970s country rock group Flying Norwegians.
Trivia
Shortly after releasing his 1989 album American Dreamer, he won the London Country Music Roundup's Male Vocalist of the Year honor.
Family Life
He was born and raised in Bergen, Norway, and he later recorded music in both Nashville, Tennessee and Denver, Colorado. He died of cancer in his early fifties and was survived by two children, including a son named Rudi who had been his frequent musical collaborator.
