Renowned fashion designer who has designed garments for influential figures including Princess Diana, Freddie Mercury, and Bianca Jagger. She has also designed textiles for interiors featuring her prints on furniture and homewares. In 2003, she founded the Fashion and Textile Museum in London. She is known for her bold prints and vibrant technicolor designs.

She studied at the Medway College of Art. Her major area of study was printed textile design. She later furthered her education under a scholarship at the Royal College of Art.

She was named Designer of the Year in 1972. She was also named the Royal Designer for Industry in 1974. She was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1997, as well as Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2014 Birthday Honors for services to British fashion and textiles.

She has described former Warner Bros president Salah Hassanein as having been her long-standing partner and the greatest love of her life until his unfortunate demise in the year 2019.

She has designed costumes for Brian May.
